Mr. Craig was born October 22, 1933 and was the son of the late William McKinley Craig and the late Eva Pearl Best Craig. He was a native of Haywood County and had made his home in Buncombe County since 1956. Tommy was formerly employed with the Buncombe County School System, as a sheet metal and heating technician and retired in 1995 with many years of dedicated service. He was indeed a talented man- a woodworking craftsman, an automobile mechanic, a concrete finisher and in general he was known as “Mr. Fix It.” Tommy was blessed with a delightful personality and he brought much happiness and laughter into the lives of his friends and family. He loved listening to bluegrass music and watching him get ready for each blessed Christmas season brought smiles and great joy to his children and his grandchildren as he decorated with multitudes of Christmas lights. Mr. Craig was a member of Luther Pentecostal Holiness Church in Candler and his faith played an important part of his life. Tommy loved his family and especially his grandchildren with all his heart and soul. The wonderful memories that they each hold in their hearts will be treasured forever. We give thanks for the life of Thomas “Tommy” Lee Craig.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Drake Craig who passed away in 2014 ; a daughter-in-law, Christy Craig; brothers, Charles and Billy Craig.
Surviving are his children, Gary Craig and Linda, David Craig and Charlotte, Leanne Meadows and Steve , Wayne Craig and Michelle and Gregory Craig all of Candler; grandchildren, Stephen, Keith, Kristal, Brandon, Jonathan, Chad and Evelyn; several beloved great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and friends.
