CPL US MARINE CORPS WORLD WAR II


Lloyd G. Ford of Fritch, TX was called home by his Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, November 1, 2019.

Services will be at 3:00 P.M., Wednesday, November 6, 2019, at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd in Amarillo. Burial will be at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Lloyd was born on November 3, 1923 in Cherry Hill, AR to John Haden Ford and Hettie Mae Harrell Ford. The family soon moved to New Castle, TX and this is where he grew up and called "home". He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in October of 1942, serving in combat in the South Pacific from 1942 to 1945. He married Billie "Irene" Scroggs on July 31st, 1947 in Spearman, TX. They moved to Amarillo in 1950 and lived there until 1982. Lloyd retired from ASARCO Copper Refinery in 1987.

He and Irene are members of the Broadway Baptist Church in Fritch, Texas.

He was welcomed to his heavenly home by his parents, John and Hettie Ford; his brothers, Harrell and Rufus Ford and his sister, Flora Onstott; his two sons, Carroll Lynn Ford and Harrell Kent Ford; four grandsons; and his best friend and brother-in-law, Albert Hamilton Leach.

He will be greatly missed by Billie Irene, his wife of 72 years; daughter, Cindy Schindler and husband, Robert; son, Jimmy Ford and wife, Ricci; daughter Angie Downs and husband, Jerry; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the Medical, Nursing and Support staff at the Thomas Creek VA Medical Center. The care he received was truly care befitting a hero.

Visitation will be Tuesday, November 5, 2019 from 5:30 to 7:30 in the evening at the funeral home.
