Olympic Games Gold Medalist Athlete. He made sports history when he became the first athlete to hail from Sweden to capture a world title in speed skating. Ericsson won the European All-Round Championship in Falun, Sweden and went on to defeat the Soviets in Moscow for the ISU World All-Round Speed Skating Championship in 1955. One year later at the 1956 Winter Olympic Games in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy, he would win a gold medal in the Men's 10,000 Meters competition. Additionally, he received a silver medal in the Men's 5.000 Meter Competition.
