NORTHERN VETERAN PASSES

The death is announced of Commander William A. Ackers, R.A.N.R. He was over 50 years of age, and had led an adventurous life at sea and later In North Queensland, finally settling in business At Townsville, where he became Mayor and president of the Chamber of Commerce and head of many other bodies. He was the officer in charge of the Townsville Naval Brigade for many years. He had retired from active business, and was on his way home to Townsville after a visit to Sydney when he was stricken with Illness and was removed to the home of friends at Sherwood, where he died.
