Funeral services were conducted Saturday in Duchesne LDS Ward chapel for Mrs. Aldura Hatch Merkley, 86, who died Wednesday, November 20 in a Salt Lake hospital of natural causes.
Burial was in the Duchesne Cemetery.,
Mrs. Merkley was born February 26, 1871 at Smithfield, Utah, a daughter of Jeremiah and Elizabeth Wynn Hatch. She moved to Vernal as a young girl and lived here her early life. She was a member of the LDS Church.
She married Christopher Merkley in 1887 in Vernal. They resided here the fore part of their married life and then moved to Duchesne where they have resided for many years. He died January 22, 1939.
They were parents of nine children, seven survive; five sons, two daughters, Wilson, John, Jerry and Mrs. Elizabeth Thomas, Duchesne; Nelson L.., Pasco, Washington; Chris, Ogden; Hugh, Sandpoint, Idaho; Mrs. Gladys Mecham, Salt Lake City, 28 grandchildren, 86 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are three brothers, Golden, Abe and Roy Hatch, Vernal and Willow Creek, three sisters, Mrs. Perry C. (Rowena) Johnson, Vernal; Mrs. Pearl Clark, Naples; Mrs. Lacy Burnett, Duchesne.
Attending the services from Vernal were Mr. and Mrs. Golden Hatch, Mr. and Mrs. Abe Hatch, Roy Hatch, Mr. and Mrs. Perry C. Johnson, Lorna Squires, Afton Matthew, Pearl Clark, Mrs. George Merkley, Mr. and Mrs. Morgan Merkley, Clifford Johnson of Craig also attended.
