Obituary:
A much-loved father, grandfather, brother and uncle, Gerald Grant Gaylord (Uncle Geb) departed this life January 3, 2009 in Richmond VA. He was 89 years old. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 10, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Luke’s & St. Anne’s Episcopal Church, 206 Boush St., Roper, NC. Family visitation will be held prior to the service from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St.
Luke’s & St. Anne’s Episcopal Church, P. O. Box 119, Roper, NC 27970 or the Plymouth Food Pantry, Highway. 32 South, Plymouth, NC 27962.

The family will be in Roper on Thursday, January 8 through the weekend.
He is survived by his children, Sue Sitterson, her husband Ken, and Jeri Evans; his grandchildren, Todd Sitterson, Katherine Allen, her husband Edward, Phillip Evans and David Evans; his great-grandchildren Ema and Olivia Allen; and his sister, Rose McCallister. His extended family included many devoted nieces and nephews. A retired farmer and businessman, he was a lifelong resident of Washington County, NC, and was a devoted member of St. Luke’s & St. Anne’s Episcopal Church in Roper where he was a former vestry member. He was a charter member of the Roper Ruritans and was an active volunteer and past president of the Plymouth Food Pantry. He was a member of the Washington County Historical Society and volunteered many hours at the Port ‘O Plymouth Museum. A WWII veteran, he served with distinction in the Army with the 81st infantry unit (the Wildcats) in the South Pacific where he received three bronze stars.
