Susan (Sue) L. Barnes, 75, of Waldo, AR passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Friday, November 1, 2019. Sue was preceded in death by her daughter, Tawana Barnes and is survived by her husband, Richard Barnes, Sr., and six children: Kimberly Richey, Richard Barnes, Jr., Kelli Morrison (Darrell), Ellis Barnes (Kim), Dale Barnes (Chasity), Pamela Barnes, sixteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.
Sue was born June 20, 1944 in Liberal, Kansas. She married the love of her life, Richard Barnes, on September 13, 1962 in Clayton, New Mexico. She loved and adored her husband of 57 years and cherished the life they built and all of the memories they made together. She loved to tell the story of how she and Richard married after only knowing each other for three days. Sue always said it was love at first sight.
Sue always took great pride in her family. As a mother, she loved all of her children wholeheartedly and embarked on many adventures with them by her side. Those adventures often lead the family to the beaches of Florida, Disney World, Sea World, amusement parks, camping, and much more. When it came to being a grandmother, she was constantly present in her grandchildren’s lives no matter the distance or circumstances. She cherished her time with her grandchildren and took advantage of any and all opportunities to “spoil“ them. Her loyal, four-legged champion, Poppy, was most often found by her side and brought joy to her life for over 13 years.
In her spare time you would find Sue busy crocheting, painting, sewing, or reading. She found her true calling as a paraprofessional at Waldo Public School in 1999. There she assisted in not only educating children but also seeking to reach them on a personal level. Her goal was not to only assist the children in obtaining good grades, but also for them see their true potential by establishing goals and dreams. After leaving this position, she worked for the Taylor School District until her failing health caused her to retire.
Sue will be greatly missed by many, but will always be in the hearts and memories of her loving family.
