Margaret Johnson Williamson, age 86, who resided at the Ormond Nursing & Care Center in Destrehan, LA passed away on the morning of Tuesday, December 18, 2018. Margaret was born in Shreveport, LA on April 22, 1932, to Margaret McElhiney Johnson and William Nash Johnson (both deceased). She and her family moved to New Orleans when Margaret was still young. In New Orleans, Margaret met and married her husband, John A. Williamson, Jr., (deceased). They resided together in New Orleans, Jefferson, Norco and Destrehan, LA as well as many years in Diamondhead, MS. Margaret and John were the loving parents and are survived by their six children, Catherine Blouin (John S., deceased), John Clayton Williamson (Karen), Ira Matthew Williamson (Julie), Claire Johnson, Wendy Connolly (Michael) and Eva Manguno (Vincent). Margaret and John's children gifted them with 12 grandchildren: Courtney Blouin Moss (Richard), Quinn Williamson Banquer (Tim), Mac Williamson (Christy), Ben Blouin (Katie), Cameron Johnson, Mason Williamson, Grant Johnson, Clay Williamson, Vinny Manguno, Daniel Connolly, Sophia Manguno, and Abigail Connolly. Margaret was the great-grandmother to 6 children. She is also survived by a wonderful, loving, extended family of sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. Margaret will be remembered fondly by many friends. She made friends easily and was known for her caring and generous spirit. She had a remarkable smile and was always eager to help anyone.
She was an avid animal lover and volunteered for local ASPCA organizations in Louisiana. She rescued pets throughout her life and gave them a good home. Margaret loved the arts. She was active in the community theater at Diamondhead, loved attending theatrical and musical events, and supported local artists. She was a talented singer and her family fondly remember her beautiful voice. Margaret was one of the original members of the Destrehan Historical Society and was instrumental in the restoration efforts of Destrehan Plantation. She wrote a column for the Diamondhead local paper and was active in the Diamondhead community.
Margaret has gone to be with her beloved husband and best friend, John. We know that she truly will be in a better place. Margaret will be cremated and her ashes scattered in the Diamondhead Community Church Memorial Garden where John's ashes were scattered in 2003. A memorial service for Margaret will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 2 p.m. at the Mandeville Bible Church, 217 Carroll St, Mandeville, LA.
