Rilda Burke, 88, of Oneida, died Thursday evening, September 14, 1995, at the Scott County Hospital in Oneida. She was born in Scott County on April 16, 1907, to the late John Henry Thomas and the late Menda Jane Foster Thomas.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Will Haden Burke; two sons, T. L. and Lewis Burke; three stepsons, Mitchell, Ovia and Ester; and seven brothers and three sisters.
She was a member of the Bethalonia Baptist Church.
Survivors include three daughters: Connie Terry, Elizabeth Boyatt and Menda Williams, all of Oneida; five sons: Howard Burke, J. D. Burke, Jessie Burke, Crestin Burke and James Lester Burke, all of Oneida; two stepdaughters: Dorothy Marcum of Oneida and Alice Hamby of Winfield; 3 half brothers: Gabriel Thomas of Lenior City, Aaron Thomas of Coos Bay, Oregon, Cleophia Thomas of Myrtle Creek, Oregon; 26 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, and many other relatives.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday at the West-Murley Funeral Home Chapel in Oneida with Rev. Norman Burke and Rev. Robert King officiating. Burial was in the West Cemetery at Rt. 3, Oneida. Pallbearers were Monty Burke, Chris Williams, Paul A. Burke, Johnny P. Burke, Charles E. Burke, Randy Burke and Rodney Burke. West-Murley Funeral Home had charge of arrangements
