Donna L. McCracken, 87, of Bettendorf passed away on October 27, 2019 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House. Per her wishes, cremation rights have been accorded. A Celebration of Life Luncheon will be held on Monday, November 11th, 11am-2pm at the Palmer Grill, 2999 Middle Road, Bettendorf. A private family inurnment will precede the luncheon at the Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be left to the American Cancer Society or the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House.
Donna was born November 27, 1931 in Duluth, MN to Ernest T. and Selma (Josephson) Dahlin. Donna and her childhood best friend left the chill of Duluth shortly after they both turned 18, and traveled west. The girls were living in Seattle when she met her eventual husband, Will. The couple moved to L.A. for his job. She was united in marriage to Willard McCracken on October 5, 1955 in Hollywood, CA. Donna told stories about her time in the movie industry, working in the secretarial pool at different movie studios. Deere & Company brought them to the Quad Cities in the late 1960’s. She was a long time member of St. James Lutheran Church. She enjoyed gardening and raising her family. Donna was an early supporter of the Bettendorf Wrestling Club and she did deliveries for Meals on Wheels. She was the family CFO, Chef and Facilities Manager.
She is survived by three sons, their spouses and 6 grandchildren: Ross (Betty) McCracken of Pinedale, WY, Brian (Susan) McCracken of Virginia Beach, VA, David (Sabrina) McCracken of Bettendorf, IA and grandchildren, Sarah, Katie, Will in VA and Rachel, Audrey and Nicole in IA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and eight siblings.
