Hilda Hill, born Hilda Ilene Sims, age 97, went to be with the Lord on October 31, 2019.
Hilda was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama June 5, 1922 to Emory D. Sims Sr. (1900 - 1984) and Sydney Lodge Sims (1905-1980). She was the eldest of thirteen children.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband of forty-four years, Earl Hill (1915-1984), a son, Frank Hill (1940-2018); and eight of her siblings; Jackson David Sims (1923-2001), Margaret Sims Powell (1925-?), Paul Edward Sims (1928-2013), Tony Lodge Sims (1930-2015), Fred T. Sims (1933-?), Hazel Ruth Sims (1934-1941), Emory D. Sims Jr. (1937-2015) and Helen I. Sims (1939-?).
Paternal Grandparents: Andrew Jackson Sims Jr (1863-1901) of Blount County, Alabama and Mary A Thomas Sims (1865-1937) of Blount County, Alabama.
Maternal Grandparents: David Alpha Lodge (1881-1958) of Lawrence County, Ohio and Emma Estell Wells Lodge (1873-1943) of Clanton, Alabama.
Hilda grew up in the time when street cars were prevalent and upcoming merchants displayed their wares on their street corners in old Birmingham. She attended Phillips High School and was a devoted homemaker and friend. Hilda loved cooking, flower gardening, decorating her home, creating photo albums, and creating handwritten notes and cards and letters with beautiful cursive handwriting.
She was devoted to daily scripture reading and prayer and lived her life by the Golden Rule. She was a classic Southern lady who was loved dearly by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, siblings, nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors. Hilda's kindness was rare and special. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her son, Jerry Hill (Dorothy), daughter; Sheila Spruell (Theron); daughter-in-law Frances Hill; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren; four siblings, Pat Barros, Ronald Sims, Stephen Sims, and Richard Sims; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Monday, November 4, 2019 from 11:00 A.M. to 12:00 Noon at Crestview Funeral Home.
