1st Sgt. Jeffrey R. McKinney of Garland, Texas was known as a kind hearted human being. Jeffrey's room in Iraq was sweltering hot in spite of a working air conditioner in the window. He reasoned that there were soldiers in the same building with no AC at all. So he refused to turn his on until theirs also worked again. One day he was on his knees scrubbing blood off a patch of concrete from where one of his soldiers had just been struck by a roadside bomb. When asked what he was doing, his answer was simple. He said, 'I'm not leaving any part of him here. He deserves better than that.' Jeff died in Adhamiyah, Iraq, of injuries suffered from a non-combat related incident at age 40.
