Son of John Blackmar & Jenina Kinne, born 1722 in Rhode Island. 1758 married Anna Akwesasne at Gloucester, Providence Co, RI. 1760 served in the Old French & Indian War. In 1783 Abner purchased land and he was identified as Abner Blackmer of Gloucester, Rhode Island. In 1785 & 1787 Abner purchased additional parcels of land on the Dorset/Danby town line , now known as Danby Mtn Road but back at that time it was the main County Road from Dorset to Danby Four Corners. Abner was present in the 1790 &1800 fed census for Dorset. The 1810 census had three families; Eseck Blackmer (son), Abner Blackmer (JR) (son) and Abner Blackmer with 3 members; 1 male and female over 45 years of age and 1 female 16 to 25 yrs. The Dorset 1820 census had only the sons Eseck & Abner.

The last real estate transaction recorded from Abner was March 12, 1817 to Serenus Church, the 17 acres with house I live in. recorded Vol 6 pg 127. On July 15, 1820 Abner Jr on describing a piece of land states "bounded north on lands belonging to Estate of Abner Blackmore deceased" Vol 6 pg 396

On June 13, 1814 he had apportion of his lot surveyed calling it " assigned for a burying ground" 6 rods (99ft) square. Abner purchased the lot in 1783, it already had a house originally of Samul Church. Are the old field stone markers from that Church family? The 1819, 1843, 1844, 1862 & 1868 stones are the Blackmer family. The 1791 stone would have been when Blackmer lived there. Possible dau Jane's final resting place.

Gravesite Details

Very old & hand carved field stone in poor condition. Cemetery was previously copied by Grace W.W. Reed the ending date was printed as 1859? Though very rough it looks like an one, maybe a topo made in record?
