Daughter of John and Catherine McPherson who came to New York from Alvie, Inverness-shire, Scotland. She married her childhood sweetheart, Rev. Lewis Cheeseman, having been born and raised in the same neighborhood as he was. She was known for her powerful singing voice and could often be heard above the other members of the choir of which she was frequently the leader. Her daughter Miriam, who only lived six months, was named for her as was her granddaughter Miriam McPherson Cheeseman. Her winning personality and hospitality greatly aided her husband's career.
