He was born June 2, 1931 in Overton County, Tennessee to the late J.P. & Ruby Ayers Maxwell.
Billy was a member of the Hilham United Methodist Church, and served his country in the Army during the Korean Conflict. He loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren very much. Billy enjoyed woodworking, and was very accomplished at it, where he made many pieces for family, friends, and his church. He also enjoyed bluegrass music, nature watching, feeding birds, and going to church.
Billy leaves behind his wife of 65 years, Mrs. Villa Thompson Maxwell of Hilham, TN; son, Billy Maxwell & wife Louann of Hilham, TN; daughter, Angela Hester of Livingston, TN; 3 grandson, Bradley Gore, Lyndon Johnson, and Justin Maxwell; 2 great-grandsons, Isaiah Johnson, and Elijah Johnson; 2 great-granddaughters, Makiyah Gore, and Malia Gore; brother, Maurice Maxwell of Clinton Township, MI.
In addition to his parents, Billy was preceded in death by his infant son; daughter, Phyllis Maxwell Ledbetter; brother, John Maxwell; and sisters, Blanche Fisk, and Clarice Upton.
Funeral Services for Mr. Maxwell were conducted on Monday, November 4, 2019, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Bro. Rick Cross officiating. Burial followed in the Campground Cemetery.
