“Gone Hunting”

Ernest “Don” Andrews left this earthly life following a long illness early in the morning on October 29, 2019 surrounded by those he loved most.

Although born in Belton, he had been a lifelong resident of Georgetown, TX.

Don was a farmer/rancher as well as an avid deer hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed hunting trips to Colorado with his father, brothers, son, wife and brother in law Richard Wear. He loved fishing at Lake Buchanan and spent many summers there with his family and friends.

Bingo was another passion of Don and Joyce’s that started in their younger years. They worked together, fished and hunted together and were pretty inseparable. He always insisted that his family eat dinner together at the table and everyone had their place. Don had a dry sense of humor and loved to tease his wife.

Don worked for the State of Texas for almost 37 years as a flood engineer and then went on to enjoy another full time career with FEMA working major natural disasters. He owned Andrews Feed and Seed Co and ranched and farmed full time while he worked for the state in the 70’s.

In high school he played football and rodeo’d riding bare back broncs before enlisting in the Army. Don was an incredibly hard worker. Work was work to Don but it also was play. He loved riding out in the pasture either on one of his horses Strawberry or Lady or in his orange Bronco checking his cattle. His Healer dogs Missy and Ginger were his constant companions. Don was a quiet man and the quiet of the outdoors made sense to him.

He loved the Lord and was raised in the Baptist Church. Later he attended the Cowboy Church in Liberty Hill and watched Joel Osteen when he could. His grandchildren and great grandchildren meant so much to him and he was always helping somebody. Don was incredibly generous and would help anyone that needed it. “Poppa” as his grandkids called him was a true friend to all and a wonderful father to his own kids as well as a few other’s kids too.

While working for FEMA Don was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. He suffered for 12 years but never complained. He was barely able to walk but continued to work around his homeplace as much as possible until the two years of his life. Giving up his Wranglers and cowboy boots were probably the most painful part of the disease for him.

Don is survived by his wife and best friend of 55 years, Joyce as well as his three kids Donny Andrews (Angelique),Margo Lansdale (Alan) and Susan Gaefke (Joseph) as well as 8 grandchildren; Abbey Ward (Dave), Harrison Lansdale, Kaylee and Dustin Andrews (Cristin), Lindzey Sandefur, ,Brittany, Courtney and Cameron Dean (Jenny). Great grandchildren include Noah and June Ward, Paisley French, Presley Lansdale-Peterson, Sam Ward, Cruz Trevino, Aidan, Mackenzie, Liam Dean and Axel Andrews.

His brother Curtis Andrews of Georgetown, TX and Rick Andrews (Lori) of Liberty Hill, TX survive him as well as his sisters Margie Rydell of Hurst TX and Linda Wear of Kerrville, TX .

He was preceded in death by his mother and father Ross and Ella Andrews as well as his sister Melba Helms.

Don is also survived by his best childhood friends Albert Landry, Van Hunt as well as his friend Jim Holderfield. Albert was a great comfort to Don during the last years of his life.

There’s a pretty good chance Don is enjoying afternoon coffee right now in Heaven with his father, mother and sister Melba as well as his friends Ralph Campbell, Bubba Lansdale, Lewis Barnes and Hugh Smith.

Rest in Peace Don, you sure do deserve it! We can’t wait to see you again. You were the best. Love you, Dad.
