Ann Carolyn Clark Barlow was born on January 17, 1938 and passed into Heaven on October 31, 2019 in Yukon, Oklahoma. She was born to Delphin Harold Clark and Elizabeth Leeth Clark in Robstown, Texas. Two years after Carolyn came her little sister Judy. Del, as he was called, worked for Phillips 66 as a Doodlebugger (seismic personnel) which gave the family of four the opportunity to live in various towns in Texas and Oklahoma. Living in Shidler and Ramona Oklahoma gave the two girls lots of stories to pass down to their children.

When Carolyn was starting high school the family settled in Bartlesville. She played the Alto Saxophone in the high school band and when she walked into the band room Ronnie Barlow leaned over to his friend and said, “I could come home to her.” They dated through high school but Ron was a year older and when he left to come to Bethany Peniel College in Bethany, Oklahoma they went their separate ways.

Carolyn moved to Norman to attend the University of Oklahoma and majored in Medical Technology. A few years later she had a chance meeting with Ron’s little sister Carol who then invited Carolyn to Ron’s birthday party to surprise him. And the rest as they say is history. Carolyn skipped her college graduation to marry Ron on August 6th, 1960. Eighteen months later their daughter Pam was born and six weeks after that Ron graduated from Medical school and the family of three moved to Washington D.C. where Ron did his Internship at George Washington University. One year later they moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico and 18 months after Pam was born they were blessed with their first son Todd. After Ron’s one-year Residency commitment it was his time to serve his country for two years in the United States Air Force stationed at Edwards Air Force Base. In 1966 they moved to Oklahoma City where Ron started his medical practice and their second son Jeremy was born. Oklahoma City/Bethany is where they chose to settle and raise their family.

Carolyn had a curious mind and never shied away from adventure. She loved to travel and it didn’t matter where. She and Ron traveled to Israel, Japan, Alaska, and many places in Europe and her dear friends continued inviting her to travel to foreign places after Ron passed away in1996. Because of Ron and Carolyn’s need to volunteer and use their gifts they often traveled to Mexico. While Ron held medical clinics in the village, Carolyn and other church volunteers built churches in the poorest villages.

In 1972 Carolyn was sitting in church listening to the Senior Adult Minister Brother Sam Stearman talking about his dream for a Senior Adult Retreat called NIROGA. She felt a moving in her spirit, leaned over to Ron and said, “This is what I’m supposed to do.” For the next 20 years she was part of an amazing group and made life-long friends using her talents of organization and she had a ball doing it.

Within a year or two she was also asked to help organize the Excel auction for Southern Nazarene University to provide a way to fund educational camps for children. That was the beginning of Carolyn’s volunteering for Southern Nazarene University. She was elected to the Board of Trustees in 1990 and the year after that she was elected to be the Chair of the Academic Affairs committee, served in that capacity until 2009. She was also asked to be a member of the SNU Foundation. She was still a member of the Foundation and also a member of the Southern Plaza until the day she passed away.

Carolyn is survived by her daughter, Pam Beals (Kevin) of OKC; sons, Todd Barlow (Robin) of Bentonville, AR and Jeremy Barlow (Lori) of Cullman, AL; grandchildren, Jared Willard (Claudia) of Yukon, Reid and Corey Beals, Brooks, Jillian, Braeden, Brendan, Luke, and Avery Barlow; great grandchildren, Max and Samantha Willard; sister, Judy Barry of Norman; brother-in-law, Dick Billiter of Houston and many nieces and nephews.

Viewing will be Sunday, November 3rd from 11:00am-9:00pm with family present from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Mercer-Adams Funeral Service. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 4th, at Bethany First Church of the Nazarene.
