US Congressman. A member of the Democratic Party, he served Michigan's 8th Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives from 1974 until 1993. He studied at Michigan State University, prior to serving with the United States Army. Following his discharge, he attained his law degree from the Detroit College of Law and commenced practicing in Bay City, Michigan, where he rose to assistant prosecutor. He entered the political arena when he was elected to the Michigan State House of Representatives (1962 to 1974). He succeeded Russell James Harvey in Congress and during his tenure, he served on the House Appropriations Committee.
