David Obie Cann, 69, of Abbeville died Wednesday, October 30, 2019, at his home. He was born in Abbeville to the late J.O. and Sarah Hall Cann.

A 1969 graduate of Abbeville High School, David honorably served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Known as a ‘fixer of all things,’ he retired as a crane operator after many years of employment. David was most content spending time outdoors while fishing, hunting, gardening and cooking out. A member of Rocky River Presbyterian Church, he was also affiliated with the National Rifle Association and the American Legion.

In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by a son, Dillon Cann and a sister, Alice Price.

He is survived by his longtime companion, Barbara Nance; siblings, Juanita Fisher of Murrayville, GA, Allen Cann (Joyce), Alton Cann, all of Abbeville, Mary Clark of Florida and Lillian Hayes (Vinnie) of North Carolina; his dear friends, Andy Bannister, Franklin Page and Mike Hendricks; and numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family.

The family will receive friends 10:00AM – 11:00AM, Saturday, November 2, 2019 at Harris Funeral Home, Abbeville Chapel. Funeral services will begin at 11:00AM in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Corrina Gambrell and Mr. Mike Hendricks officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Melrose Cemetery.

Memorial contributions, in memory of David, may be sent to Rocky River Presbyterian Church, c/o Martha Patterson, 426 Tugaloo Street, Calhoun Falls, SC 29628.
