Samuel Jay Turner, Jr., age 98 of Shelby County, passed away on Monday, October 28, 2019 at his beloved home he built 60 years ago.

Mr. Turner was born September 4, 1921, in Woodstock, Alabama to Samuel Jay Turner Sr. (1887-1963) and Mary Gae Walton Turner (1888-?).

A member of the United Steelworkers, he retired from U.S. Steel and was a U. S. Army Veteran of WWII. Mr. Turner was a member of New Century Church. Sam was an animal lover and was most devoted to his constant companion, Jasper. His nieces and nephews, as well as the children of his friends and neighbors, remember him for the twinkle in his blue eyes and his ever-ready playful entertainment. Sam was a storyteller with a profound memory of lifelong events and adventures and was known for his compassion, empathy, and generosity for those in need.

Mr. Turner was preceded in death by the love of his life, and wife of almost 74 years, Jimmie Kreider Turner (1924-2015); his parents; and his cherished sister, Mary Elizabeth Frazier (1923-?).
