Stella Mae Fisher, age 57 of Elwood, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2019 at her residence following an extended illness. She was born May 31, 1962 in Anderson, the daughter of Sallie M. Qualls. Stella graduated in 1980 from Elwood Community High School where she excelled in sports, especially basketball and softball. She also a very talented artist, and many of her sketches still hang on the walls of the high school today. She was a member of East Main Street Christian Church where she formerly helped with summer camps and driving the youth on trips. Stella worked as a homemaker and babysitter most of her life. Her family and especially her grandchildren were the most important part of her life. She was known as the “favorite aunt” to all her nieces and nephews and a “beloved grandmother” to her grandchildren. Stella also formerly coached softball for many years, and she truly enjoyed spending time with children. She began dating Brian Middleton of Elwood in 2009, and they shared over 10 years together. As Studebaker car enthusiasts, they enjoyed many memorable trips together traveling to 21 of the U.S. states. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Stella’s family legacy includes her companion and fiance’, Brian Middleton of Elwood; beloved son, Terry (wife Malita) Duckworth of Indianapolis; 3 precious grandchildren; 6 siblings, Tony (wife Brenda) Qualls of Tennessee, Mary (husband Randy) Robison of Elwood, Anita Fisher of Noblesville, Becky (husband Rich) Galbreath of Elwood, Bruce Qualls of Elwood, and Charlie (wife Carla) Farmer of Anderson; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, Sallie M. (Qualls) Fisher and a twin brother, Steve Fisher in 2009.

A funeral service celebrating Stella’s life will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Friday, November 1, 2019 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Rev. Roger Gardner of East Main Street Christian Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery.
