“Some call it dreaming, just let me dream on. Some call it paradise, somewhere beyond the skies. Some call it heaven, but I call it home.”

John Earl Murrell went home to Jesus on October 27, 2019 at age 64. John was born to Bobby Joe and Jacqueline Marie Murrell on April 4, 1955 in Fort Worth, Texas. As a teenager he left home to preach the gospel and make music.

While making music and serving the church, he met and married Mary Skinner, and together they had two children, John and Misty. Life is never perfect, but we know God works all things together for the good of those who love Him. John met his wife of over 40 years, Elvia in 1978. They married a year later on February 2, 1979 in Tok, Alaska. They went on to have four children, Valauna, JT, Bryan, and Aldryn. In 1996, he moved the family to their home in Newcastle, OK.

In addition to being a dedicated and loving husband, father, and grandfather, John also loved being the senior pastor at Faith Christian Fellowship in Dibble, OK. Throughout his entire life, he held an unwavering faith in God, which he shared with those who surrounded him. He had an unmatched love for music, incomparable guitar playing style, and an unequaled desire to see people come to know Jesus.

For decades, John was a decorated member of the law enforcement community. He retired from the Cleveland County Sheriff’s office in 2009 after serving as the Captain of Investigations. Before that he served as an Investigator for the Oklahoma County District Attorney’s Office. He held a Master’s Degree from the University of Oklahoma in Government Administration.

John joins his son, Aldryn, and his parents, Bobby Joe and Jacqueline Marie in Heaven.

He is survived by his wife, Elvia, his siblings Bobby, Tommy, Daylene, and Melodie, his children, John and Christina Woods, Misty and Heath Simmons, Valauna and Jerrod Grissom, JT and Tracy Murrell, Bryan and Heather Murrell and his 13 grandchildren, Jazlyne, Caleb, Hannah, Hailey, Preston, Reagan, Aria, Lyric, Cadence, Alexa, Kai, Alee, and Mason.

Psalm 91:11 “For He will give His angels charge concerning you, to guard you in all your ways.”

Exodus 23:20 “See, I am sending an angel ahead of you to guard you along the way and to bring you to the place I have prepared.”

Funeral service will be held at Life.Church, South Oklahoma City Campus, 7800 South Walker Avenue, Oklahoma City, OK. Burial will follow in the Dibble Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Eisenhour Funeral Home of Blanchard.
