Merle Robert Jordan, 87, of Winterset, Iowa died Wednesday, February 23, 2005 at Madison County Health Care System in Winterset.


Merle was born November 28, 1917 in Knoxville, Iowa, the son of L.T. and Lena (Shivvers) Jordan. He served in the United States Navy during WWII. His marriage to Margery Nichols took place on June 18, 1942 in Long Beach, California.

Merle was a farmer during most of his life and had worked in the ship yards in California prior to moving to farm in Madison County. He was a member of the Patterson United Methodist Church, Past President of the Patterson School Board, and 4-H Leader. Merle also served on the Farm Service Board for several years, was a member of Farm Bureau, Madison County Pork Producers, and the Madison County Fair Board.

Survivors include his wife, Margery of Winterset, two sons, Larry Jordan and wife, Gayle of Pleasant Hill and Dennis Jordan and wife, Kathy of Prole; 4 grandchildren, Scott Jordan, Lisa Burnham, Kerri Schumacher and Kimberly Akers; 12 great-grandchildren, J.T. Jordan, Kelsey Jordan, Karley Jordan, Taylor Jordan, Cole Jordan, Jamie Jordan, Brody Burnham, Danielle Akers, Dakota Akers, Shawna Schumacher, Nicole Schumacher, and Blake Schumacher.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, LaVern, Tommy, Raymond, and Ellis Jordan; one sister, Lorene Robuck; and a grandchild, Larry Todd Jordan.
