Kathleen Effrick Yates, 79, passed away on Thursday, July 14, 2005. She was born in New York City and was the widow of Carter Houghton Yates and the daughter of the late William and Kathleen Jones Jackson. She was a member of Ware Episcopal Church in Gloucester. She had a great love for her community which she showed by her volunteer work in Botetourt Elementary School, Riverside Walter Reed Hospital, Gloucester Library, and working the election polls.

She is survived by her sons, Carter Houghton Yates Jr. of Greenville, S.C. and Gregory Said Yates of Groton, Mass.; and her grandchildren, Kevin, Carolyn, Jeffrey, Carter and Caila.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 19, in Ware Episcopal Church by the Rev. Daniel O. Worthington Jr. Memorial donations may be made to Gloucester Friends of the Library or to the Tree of Lights at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital, Gloucester.
