Melvin T. Austin, age 84, born December 3, 1918, passed away September 28, 2003 after a brief illness. Melvin was born in Troy, Alabama and moved to Baker, Florida in 1932. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII on the USS Montpelier. He was a farmer.
1. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Katie Lee Jernigan Austin; two daughters, Susie Tew (Allen), and Kathy Austin; two sisters, Ouida Beck (Cecil) and Dean Holloway; two grandchildren, Jay and Shelly Tew.
A time of visitation was held Tuesday, September 30, 2003, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the chapel of Brackney Funeral Service.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, October 1, 2003 at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Brackney Funeral Services with the Rev. James E. Paul officiating. Interment was the the Pyron Chapel Cemetery.
Pallbears- Lamar Holloway, Dwight Austin, Douglas Austin, Marvin Brannon, Darryl Tew and Brandon Watson.
Brackney Funeral Service, Crestview, was in charge of arrangements.
