After graduation she attended St James Hospital where she began her longtime career as a Licensed Practical Nurse working at Galen Hospital for 5-years and St. Ann’s Community Hospital Nursing Home for 23-years. Her service as a nurse was one she truly enjoyed and had many fond memories.

In 1967 she joined the US Navy and was honorable discharged as a Petty Officer First Class. In her free time, she enjoyed traveling, shopping and going to bazaars.

She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents Ed (Cora) Kurtz, Jim (Betsy) Lathrope, sister Dorothy Kurtz, and husbands Jim Kalcso and Louis Burns.

Shirley is survived by In-laws Joe (Carmel) Burns, many dear friends especially Patricia and Don McCabe and her very special four-legged friend Reno.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, October 29, 2019 at the Holy Family Church at 10:30 a.m. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the service at the church.

Burial will follow the Mass at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

All whom loved her dearly and will never forget her tenacity, wit, charm, grace and undying love and caring for them, she thanks each of you for being a part of her life.

Longfellow Finnegan Riddle Funeral Home Obituary 10/27/2019

“Look for me in the evening sunset or amongst the flitting and fluttering butterflies. You know I'll be there in one form or another. I'll leave you with this…please don't cry because I'm gone; instead be happy that I was here.”
