Obituary for Joyce Rae Harrington

Joyce Rae Harrington died on the morning of Friday, October 11, 2019, at the Rocky Mountain Care facility in Tooele, Utah, at the age of 87.

Joyce was born to Ola Belle and William Raymond Ashmore on September 26, 1932, in Maud, Oklahoma.

She married twice and had three children, David Leo Harrington, Steven Wayland Harrington, and Richard Alan Harrington.

Following her second marriage, Joyce began a life-long career at Drown News Agency in California.

She loved her co-workers and thrived in the office environment.

During that time, she also developed a passion for golf and won several awards at her local club.

When the years finally took their toll on her golf game, she turned to anything that could challenge her mind.

There was always a puzzle or game of scrabble on the ready in her home.

Joyce is remembered by those who knew her best for her love and kindness.

She always had a snack, drink, and listening ear ready for her visitors.

Joyce made others feel special because she had a talent for remembering the details of their lives.

And to those she loved, she gave hugs and kisses freely.

During the final years of her life, Joyce struggled with kidney failure and was lovingly and diligently cared for by her niece, Susan Ashmore, to whom the family owes a great debt of gratitude.

Joyce died as an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Joyce is preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Wayland Andrew Ashmore, Charles Warren Ashmore, and William Raymond Ashmore, Jr. She is survived by sons David Harrington (Ann) of Murray, Utah, Steven Harrington (Donna) of Newburg, Maryland, and Richard Harrington (Andrea) of Lake Havasu City, Arizona.

A graveside service will be held at the Springville Evergreen Cemetery in Springville, Utah, at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 15, 2019, arranged by Utah Valley Mortuary, and presided over by Bishop Geigle.
