Mr. Cheatham was born Aug. 6, 1927 in Village. He was a retired accountant with Tosco Corporation and an ordained minister. Bro. Cheatham served in churches from Magnolia to El Dorado and the surrounding area. He was a veteran of the United States Navy having served his country during World War II. C. J. was a faithful prayer warrior and always willing to give a word of comfort and encouragement to his family and friends. He had a servant’s heart and would always greet you with a friendly smile, a kind word, a handshake and a lighthearted joke.
He was preceded in death by his father Clarence Justice Cheatham; mother Annie Cheatham; one brother Jack Cheatham; and three sisters, Marie Whiddon, Hazel Dempsey and Carla Jean Crisp.
He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Eva Lena Cheatham of Texarkana, Arkansas; one son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Teresa Cheatham of Texarkana, Texas; two daughters and one son-inlaw, Tina Cheatham of Texarkana, Texas, and Marcy and James Emerson of Cold Springs, Kentucky; three grandchildren, Lynsi Fletcher and her husband Drew, Kevin Lance Cheatham and his wife Rachel, and Laurel Emerson; three great grandchildren, Henry Fletcher, J. R. Cheatham and Ezra Fletcher; and a host of friends and other relatives.
A celebration of Mr. Cheatham’s life will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 28, 2019 at Central Baptist Church, with the Rev. David Watkins and the Rev. Phillip Dunn officiating. Burial will be at Stephens Cemetery in Stephens, under the direction of Texarkana Funeral Home of Arkansas.
The family will receive friends at Texarkana Funeral Home of Arkansas, located at 4801 Parkway Drive, from 2-4 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
