Services are Tuesday for Robert W. Wilson, who died Friday in Santa Cruz. He was 80. Mr. Wilson was born in Wiggle Creek, Neb., and raised in Lup City, Neb. After moving to California, he lived in Mission San Jose for a short time before moving to Pescadero in 1939, where he lived before moving to Santa Cruz in 1948.
He worked as a bus driver for Greyhound Bus Lines for many years, earning a certificate for 35 years of safe driving. He was an accomplished musician, playing a variety of instruments without any formal training. One of his greatest joys was gardening, and he had a select waiting list for produce he had grown. He also enjoyed raising rabbits, and had a love for dogs, especially his springer spaniels. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He was a member of the Santa Cruz Elks Lodge 824, a former member of IOOF Lodge of Pescadero, the Jim Beam Bottle Collection Club, was president of the Dos Palos Y Pheasant Club and the Albright Donut Shop Club.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian Wilson of Santa Cruz; his son, Bobbie W. Wilson of Santa Cruz; two daughters, Shirley A. Benedetti of Santa Cruz and Rita B. Busenhart of Santa Cruz; 10 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; his step-daughter, Connie Chiapella of Capitola; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceed in death by his first wife, Saretta Pearl Kiser Wilson, who died in 1984.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Norman's Family Chapel, 3620 Soquel Drive, Soquel. Friends may visit from 1 p.m to 8 p.m. Monday, and from 9 a.m. until the time of the services Tuesday, at Norman's Family Chapel. Interment is at Oakwood Memorial Park, Santa Cruz. Contributions to Boys and Girls Basketball Programs at Santa Cruz High School, co Loretta Fairband, 415 Walnut Ave. Santa Cruz, Calif. 95060, are preferred.
