FABER – Wallace Mitchell Thompson Sr., 77, or Route 1, Box 267, Faber, died early yesterday morning in Waynesboro Community Hospital.
He was born in Nelson County, Dec. 8, 1902, a son of the late Edgar P. and Hettie Davis Thompson. He retired Jan. 1, 1968, from the Waynesboro Du Pont Co. plant after 26 years of service. He was a member of Wintergreen Christian Church.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Irene P. Thompson; one daughter, Mrs. Gaye Carter, and two sons, Earl Thompson and Wallace M. Thompson, Jr., all of Faber; one brother, A. Philip Thompson of Waynesboro; one sister, Mrs. Bluma Frazier of Faber; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; 10 step-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one son, Steve Thompson, July 31, 1977.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow in Wintergreen Christian Church, conducted by the Rev. Cecil Rhodes, with interment in the church cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be David Thompson, Alan Carter, C. W. Weeks, Lowell Phillips, Steve Thompson Jr. and Steve Irvine.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ray Falls, Doug Thompson, Massie Napier, Frank Napier, Roy Napier, Raymond Spitler, Herbert Truslow, Steve Loving, Bob Poxton and Merv Miller.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight in Etter Funeral Home.
