Gene Williams of
Logansport passed away on October 22 in Logansport, He was the son of Herbert and Reba (Trout) Williams. On August 26, 1956 in Logansport he married his high school sweetheart, Shirley J. Harris. He graduated from Logansport High School in 1954 and attended Indiana State University on a basketball scholarship and continued his love for basketball by coaching at several levels in the Logansport community
Gene "the dean" retired from the Logansport Community School Corporation, where he was the dean of boys and then assistant principal until his retirement in 1997 after 37 years. He was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church. He loved to golf, fishing in Wisconsin and spending time with his family. He was a huge Chicago Cubs fan and was thrilled to witness them win a word series.
Surviving is a son Steve (Michelle) Williams .Walton; two daughters, Gayle Morris (Mark Collins), Logansport an Joni (Jeff)Linbach, Winimac: brother, Joe (Joy) Williams, Martinsville; ten grandchildren Megan Martin , Jordan (Tana) Linbach, Matt (Caycle) Williams, Erin Linbach, Evan Kirkendall, Molly (Jake) Finnegan, Connor Linbach, Austin Clem, Allie Williams and Nathan LoCoco, and five great-grandchildren.
The children would like to extend a special thank you to their parent's lifelong friends Butch and Judy Jones for all they have done for Gene and Shirley. He was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Williams and a nephew Kent Williams. A celebration of life will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday October 25th at Gundrum Funeral Home with pastor Colleen Hardin and burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Visitation will be from 1p.m. until the time of service on Friday
