James Street, the voice of Huckleberry Pie in DiC Enterprises' Strawberry Shortcake cartoon videos since 2004, died Wednesday after a skateboarding accident near his Thousand Oaks, California home. He was 13.

Ironically, the official Strawberry Shortcake site describes Huckleberry Pie as a boy with a homemade skateboard, whose house is a tree fort with skateboard ramps, and who will often zoom over on his board to visit Strawberry and her friends.

James' father, Andy Street, was the composer for Madeline, as well as several Strawberry Shortcake videos.

The voice of Pepito in the Madeline TV series, James was heard in Strawberry Shortcake: Berry Blossom Festival. Released on March 3 this year, it also saw limited theatrical distribution.

James was born in London, England on September 15, 1993. He moved to California with parents Andy and Anne when he was just eight months old.

From an early age, James showed talent for athleticism, but this was to develop into a real passion for the sport of baseball. He played the positions of catcher and shortstop for local Little League and club teams. He was a lifelong Yankee fan.

He replaced Daniel Canfield as the voice of Huckleberry Pie in Strawberry Shortcake videos, starting with Strawberry Shortcake: Adventures On Ice Cream Island (2004).

He recently graduated from eighth grade at Ojai Valley School, where he had been for six years. He was to begin his high school years in August at Cate School in Carpinteria.

"Always cheerful and upbeat, good-natured and determined to live his life to the absolute limit, James was also a talented voice actor," family members said. "He touched all our hearts and minds and leaves a void that can never be filled."

James Street is survived by his parents; sister Jordan Amy, 9; Grandma Ivy, Nana and Grandad Street; Auntie Edna and Uncle Eric; Auntie Caroline and Uncle Mark; and his cousins in the United Kingdom, Nicola Jayne, Philip, Nicola, Oscar and Fleur.

A "James David Street Memorial Fund" has been established. Donations should be sent to California Oaks State Bank, P.O. Box 5038, Thousand Oaks, CA 91359-9873.

A service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 13 in the Chapel of the Hills Conejo Mountain Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Conejo Mountain Memorial Park.
