Susan worked for the MS Dept. of Public Welfare as a child welfare social worker in Jackson, Hattiesburg and Hazlehurst, MS. She taught kindergarten at Hazlehurst First Baptist Church for 12 years; in her lifetime membership there she also taught Sunday School, Bible School as she dedicated her life to serving others, caring for and teaching children. Susan married her husband of 38 years, Calvin Butler in 1948. Together they had 3 daughters: Cathie Butler Looney, Barri Butler Haskins and Aimee Butler Burns. He passed away in 1985.
Susan loved to crochet and knit. She made prayer shawls, baby shoes and caps for many of her friends. She had a servant’s heart and was called to serve others, so she did, with dedication and wholeheartedness.
Susan moved to Brookdale in Clinton, MS in 1996 where she was crowned Miss Brookdale twice. She loved all of her friends there and she was so loved and respected by them. All of her life she was a mentor to her friends and family. Susan leaves a legacy of service to others that will be greatly missed; she also leaves her loving memories that will be forever treasured.
A graveside service will be Friday November 1st, 2019 at 2 p.m. at Hazlehurst Cemetery with Jamie Lamoreaux officiating.
Serving as pallbearers are John Baxter Burns, Sidney Burns, Alex Bass, Butler Looney, Cal Haskins and Don Haskins.
