Bertha was a strong Christian and a life-time member of Beech Avenue Baptist Church. She was retired from Firestone Textiles after 39 years.
Bertha would have turned 91 on Dec. 15.
Not having children of her own, she loved and cared for all of her nieces and nephews. Each of them loved her and considered her their second Mom.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Martha Jane Dockery Ellis; brothers, Clyde and Walter, Jr.; sisters, Fannie and Bessie Hardin and Ruth Reynolds.
She is survived by her brother, Ray Ellis and wife Brenda of Atlanta, Georgia and sister-in-law, Dr. Wanda Ellis of Columbia, SC; 15 nieces and nephews and numerous great-nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 7, 2017, at Beech Avenue Baptist Church.
A funeral service, with Pastor Jeff Cook officiating will follow visitation at the church at 1 p.m.
Burial will be in Gaston Memorial Park.
