Laura Louise Acker (Barrett) was born in Madison Wisconsin September 22, 1928 to Frank and Tharscilla Acker. She was the third of sixteen children. In 1930 the family moved to a farm in western Minnesota, close to Murdock. This is where Laura grew up attending a one room school where most of the class were her siblings. She graduated from eighth grade and then started working at a country store to bring home money for the family.

Laura married Thomas Barrett in Willmar, Minnesota on April 22nd, 1950. They moved to Minneapolis for work where the first 4 children were born. In 1955, they moved to California due to Tom's health problem. They both found work in the aerospace industry and this is where they raised their family, being blessed with another daughter in 1960.

Laura always believed education was important and completed her GED while working full time and raising a family of five. In 1972 they moved to Colorado where she completed her real estate license, bookkeeping and tax preparation. Laura was constantly learning new things. At age 55 she learned to swim and taught most of her grandchildren how to swim.

Tom and Laura loved to travel and learn about new cultures. They were one of the first tours to visit China when it opened its country to tourism. During their travels they visited every continent in the world except Antarctica.

In her later years, she developed Alzheimer's but even with her memory loss she found happiness in daily activities and enjoyed her daily visits from family. Her favorite saying was "I love you". She taught us how to be present and see the joy in little things. She passed peacefully at Sunrise care center surrounded by her family.

She is preceded in death by her eldest son Michael J Barrett and husband Tom Barrett.

She is survived by daughter Ann Kingdon (Rick), David Barrett (Joanne), Susan Delphia (Jim) and Elizabeth Bacon.

She was blessed with 5 grandchildren: Joshua, Justin, Kevin, JoAnna, Lauran and 3 great grandchildren, Cora, River and Mila.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00AM on Monday, November 11, 2019 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 8035 S. Quebec Street, Centennial CO 80112. Private burial will be held at Ft. Logan National Cemetery.
