Susan Ellen Wright (nee Cohen), of Bel Air, MD passed away on October 23, 2019 at the age of 58.
Sue was born and raised in Springfield, Massachusetts to the late Melvin and Esther Cohen. She experienced an idyllic childhood, playing piano, riding high in the cab of the big City Oil tanker as her dad made deliveries, taking trips to Ocean Beach Park with her parents and visiting the Eastern States Exposition, with friends who she would stay close with for a lifetime. She attended Classical High School, then Western New England University for her undergraduate degree, and Fairleigh Dickinson University where she earned her master's of business administration in finance.
Sue was introduced to Art Wright by mutual friends, and, after a long-distance romance, the two were married in 1987. Art and Sue loved to travel and visited many national parks together, and when they were at home, cared for their pet cockatoo, Candy, who is now over forty years old. When brought to Maryland for work, Art and Sue ended up working at the same location and travelled to and from work together for nine years, which Art lovingly said, "was a joy."
Sue worked for the U.S. Army, Communications Electronics Command as a Chief Data Architect where she assisted in project planning and strategy, working with data to support soldiers. Supporting "the mission" was extremely important to her, and she was committed to giving her all to her work. From her previous work in finance, Susan brought valuable industry experience to the Army. She was a wonderful communicator, able to break down barriers and bring people together to achieve the task at hand. People loved working with Sue; not only was she extremely intelligent and skilled at her job, she could engage with others with a warmth and humor that was appreciated and admired. Sue never gave up hope that she would return to the career she held so dear to her heart.
In her spare time, Sue loved to knit and was a master seamstress, with a chest full of sweaters artfully and lovingly created. She was an animal lover and a great cook, who loved to make traditional Jewish foods like matzo ball soup, kugel and brisket. Sue was also an avid collector of bold, statement jewelry, specifically Native-American pieces made with turquoise. She researched the stones and even had a few pieces commissioned from her favorite artists.
Sue was a kind, gentle soul who will be missed greatly by her family, friends, and coworkers.
She is survived by her loving husband of 32 years, Arthur Edward Wright, lifelong friends Michelle Cines, Betsie Sampson, Denise Tilli-Johnson, and many other dear family, friends, and colleagues.
