Jimmie Ray Young, 81 of Calvert City, passed away Sunday, October 20, 2019 at the Anna Mae Owen Hospice House in Murray.

Per his wishes, Jimmie Ray will be cremated, and no services will be held at this time.

Jimmie was a chemical operator, but most of us knew him for so much more. He was our Daddy. Our Papaw. Our Uncle. He was an avid antique collector and loved going to auctions to grow his collection. He was the man you wanted to beat out of a deal at the auctions, but that rarely happened. He made all of us a little bit of a pack rat, but today those treasures give us something to hold on to and think of him.

Jimmie was a simple man who didn’t want much, but when he wanted something, he had to have it--Chocolate Pie comes to mind. Story after story in recent weeks began and ended with his appetite for Joyce’s chocolate pie. How he refused to share it and could eat the entire thing in one sitting. Jimmie loved Elvis Presley. Jimmie’s love for Elvis prompted two following generations to use “Aaron” and “Presley” in names of their children.

He believed in everyone. He was a man willing to give people who had run out of second chances, one more. He was quick to lend a hand or a dollar to a friend in need.

Jimmie is survived by 3 daughters, Gigi (Mitch) Henson, Jimmilyn (David) Manion, and Robin (Jeff) Zarzecki; seven grandchildren, Evan, Aaron, Jennifer, Alexandria, Lyle, Lucas, and Bela Cate; one great-granddaughter, Isabella Presley; two sisters, Judy Niestrath and Carolyn Smith; and several nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Preceding Jimmie in death are his parents, Stilley Ray and Merle Young and Inamae Young; one grandson, Caleb Zarzecki; and one brother, Harold Young.

Lindsey Funeral Home is in charge of his arrangements.
