Bobby “Bob” Onen Watkins Sr., 72, of Easton, died Thursday, October 24, 2019 at home surrounded by his family.
Bob was born on December 7, 1946 in Sabetha, KS to Harry and Mary Ann (Vogt) Watkins.
On July 31, 1970, Bob married Joyce Gay Sloan at Southern Heights United Methodist Church in Leavenworth. He is survived by his sons Steven (Steffenee) Watkins, Easton, Kansas, Bobby (Carrie) Watkins, Highland, Kansas his daughter Tammy (Bill) Adams, Leavenworth, Kansas, thirteen grandchildren, Dexter, Jordan, Montanna and Walker Adams, Ashton and Gabriella Watkins, Kenzie, Luke, Lafe, and Logan Blevins and Liam, Araceli and Annabelle Watkins and two great grandchildren Braxton and Kooper Reckers. He is also survived by his siblings, Judy Thompson, Leavenworth, Kansas, Charles (Anita) Watkins, Whiting, Kansas, Ronnie (Nancy) Watkins, Easton, Kansas, Linda (Del) Watkins, Leavenworth, Kansas and Janice (Chuck) Silvius, Leavenworth, Kansas, as well as multiple brother and sister in laws: Gary Schuler, Poly (Judy) Sloan, Janice (Lloyd) Carpenter, Bill (Kacy) Sloan, as well as multiple nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his wife Joyce, his parents, Joyces’ parents (Lyle and Betty Sloan}, a brother Alvin Watkins, a brother in law Loyd Thompson and a sister in law Terri Schuler.
Bob graduated from Easton High School in 1965. After graduation Bob worked at Rockwell Industries in Atchison. Bob then enlisted in the Army in 1968. After leaving the Army Bob began working at Great Western Mfg. Bob graduated from NEK Technical school with a degree in computerized drafting. After graduating Bob started working for MSI in Kansas City and later moved to Contrast Equipment where he worked until he retired in 2013.
Bob enjoyed being involved in his community. Bob served as a member/President of the Easton school board, PRHS booster club, Easton Lion’s Club, coached youth baseball, softball and basketball and was an active member of the Easton United Methodist Church. Bob also enjoyed being involved in his kids and grandkids activities, restoring classic cars, going to the races, and working the cows on his farm.
Bobs’ civic duties for the City of Easton consisted of the following: City Councilman 1975-1977, Mayor 1979-1997, City Councilman 2011-2015 and Mayor 2017-2019
Memorials may be given to Pleasant Ridge Athletic Department.
Visitation will be 5 to 7 P.M., Sunday, October 27, 2019 at Davis Funeral Chapel. Funeral service will be 1 P.M., Monday, October 28, 2019 at Easton Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Easton Cemetery.
