BUCHAN LAIRD'S SUDDEN DEATH,
MR A. BROWN SHEPHERD.
Mr Alexander Brown Shepherd who was well known throughout Aberdeenshire, particularly in the Buchan district county, died with tragic suddenness at Long-haven House, near Cruden Bay, yesterday. Mr Brown Shepherd, who was 44 years of age, was son of the late Rev. George Brown of Longhaven, his mother being a daughter of late James Shepherd, Aldie. Deceased's father was a well-known Free Church minister in Edinburgh, and was minister the Free Church at Cruden from 1846 to 1857. He retired from the ministry 1871, and became proprietor of Longhaven estate.
Mr A. Brown Shepherd succeeded to tho estate, which was entailed, on the death has younger brother, adopting an additional surname that of Shepherd, which was condition his becoming heir to the property. Early in life deceased was engaged in farming in Australia, and on death of his brother he took up residence at Longhaven. He took a considerable interest in matters concerning the Buchan district, and at one time was a member the County Council for the district, and a member of the Cruden School Board. Mr Brown Shepherd survived by a widow, two sons, and a daughter.
