Karen Louise Butler Higgins, age 70, Coffee Ridge Community, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at her residence while she was surrounded by her loving family. She was a lifelong resident of Unicoi County and a daughter of the late Zeke and Rissie Huskins Butler.

Karen was a homemaker and she also worked at Wal-Mart as a Cashier and Greeter for twenty years. She was a member of Coffee Ridge Baptist Church and attended Southside Freewill Baptist Church for the past ten years. Karen was part of the Women's Auxiliary at church and always willing to help wherever she was needed.

She enjoyed helping others in her community. Karen was an excellent cook and she made delicious homemade pies, cookies and cakes. She was a talented seamstress and liked making clothes for her children and grandchildren. Karen made beautiful floral arrangements and painted stained glass windows.

Karen was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She adored spending time with her grandchildren, having tea parties with her granddaughters and painting their nails. Karen called her family members on a daily basis to make sure they were all alright and sent her love to them.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Lonnie Butler and one brother-in-law, David Pauley.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her loving husband of fifty years, Robert “Bobby” Higgins; one son, Robert Higgins (Dianna), Erwin; two daughters: Cynthia Michele Higgins White and fiance, Ronnie Joe Sparks, Erwin, Windy Higgins Edwards (Doug), Midlothian, VA; one sister, Sue Ann Pauley, Erwin; six grandchildren: Ryan Chase Toney, Chandra Lela Toney, Will Edwards, Mason Edwards, Liz Higgins and Carleigh Higgins; several nieces and nephews also survive.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:00 PM on Sunday, October 27, 2019 in the Robert Ledford Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Kevin Laws will officiate at the 7:00 PM funeral service. Music will be provided by Inez Chandler. Committal will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 28, 2019 in the Higgins Family Cemetery, Coffee Ridge Community. Pallbearers will be Robert Higgins, Brad Pauley, Doug Edwards, John Willis, Ronnie Joe Sparks and Michael Higgins. Honorary pallbearers will be Marvin Higgins, Butch Higgins and Dwayne Tipton. Everyone is asked to meet at the funeral home by 10:30 AM on Monday to go in procession to the cemetery.
