Spencer was born on October 7, 1957 in Traverse City to Allan and Betty (Gorsline) Smith.
Spencer grew up in Grosse Pointe Woods. He spent many years running his family's tavern, the Idle Hour, in Ypsilanti. While working, he met Lorna Nenciarini in 1992. They were married in 1998 in Las Vegas, wearing their new Harley shirts, at the "Little Chapel by the Courthouse".
Spencer worked at Hycorr in Kalamazoo for 12 years, then at Parker-Hannifin in Richland for five years. He retired in 2016.
Spencer had many hobbies throughout his life, including riding his Harley and going to auctions. More recently, he enjoyed cruises to warm destinations, and never passed up a good session of Bingo. His daily life revolved around his Great Danes Oliver and Mabel. Friday evenings were reserved for walks in downtown Marshall so the dogs could get ice cream. Music of the Grateful Dead was a constant throughout his life.
He is survived by his wife Lorna; daughter, Whitney Smith; siblings David Smith, Matt Smith, and Allyn Marie Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Scott Smith.
A private service will take place at a later date. Memorial contributions in Spencer’s memory may be made to the Humane Society of South Central Michigan. Assistance with memorials is available at the Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services.
