Blanche Jewel Smith lifelong resident of Columbia, died Sunday October, 20, 2019 at NHC Maury Regional Transitional Care Center.

Born December 10, 1927 in Maury County, she was the daughter of the late John Cecil Sims and the late Willie Florence Barnett Sims. She was a graduate of Columbia Central High School class of 1946 and then completed the LPN program through Maury Regional Medical Center in 1965. Mrs. Smith worked full time as a nurse for 27 years, and in December 1992 she retired but continued to work part time for 11 additional years. She was an excellent seamstress that made clothing for her children and grandchildren, enjoyed flower gardening, and spending time with her family. Mrs. Smith was a member of Highland Church of Christ for most of her adult years, but more recently she had been a member of West 7th Street Church of Christ.

She is survived by her daughters, Sara Hall and Elizabeth Sowell both of Columbia; sister, Wrennie Fay Flowers of Columbia; brother, Wendell Thurman “Tooter” (Sarah) Sims of Lynnville; grandchildren, Andrew Houston (Brittiny) Legg of Columbia, Fagan (Matthew) Moritz of Spring Hill, Laura Elizabeth (Lucas) Hale of Murfreesboro, Rebecca (David) Gibbs of Columbia, John (Ciara) Sowell of Lebanon, and Jack (Jessica) Sowell of Culleoka; and eight great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Bailey Garner Sims.

Pallbearers will include Andrew Legg, John Sowell, Jack Sowell, Matthew Moritz, Lucas Hale, and David Gibbs.

The family would like to express a special thanks to her caregivers Lillie, Klista, Annie, Sandra, and Linda.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 11:30 A.M. at Oakes and Nichols Funeral Home with Jeremy Butt officiating. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery.
