Juanita (Janie) Madla slipped peacefully from this life on Thursday, September 19, 2019 at the age of 75 after a cardiac arrest on Tuesday September 17, 2019. She was born in San Antonio on October 26, 1943 to Aurora Alcala Madla and Jesus (Jesse) Madla, Sr. She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother Jesse Madla, Jr. She is survived by her loving brother Felix and his wife Connie; nieces Magdalene Madla, Linda Massey, Susan Adams and nephew John Madla; sister-in-law Elizabeth Madla; nieces Laura Hughes, Anne Marie Madla, Alisa Madla Smith and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

She graduated from John Marshall High School in 1962 and received her bachelor's degree from Our Lady of the Lake University in 1966. Her teaching career included John Marshall High School, John Jay High School, William Howard Taft High School where she taught mathematics. She supported her students as Senior class sponsor and UIL sponsor. She attended many, many high school football games. She retired after an amazing teaching career in NISD.

She was a caretaker for her mom until her mom's death in 2004. She was dedicated to being the best Aunt Janie to her beloved nieces and nephew, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was involved in the Northside High School reunion committee, John Marshall class of 1962 reunion committee, and Northside Museum Association. At Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Helotes, she served as an Eucharistic Minister and was an important part of the ministry to the sick. She was also an honorary member of the Altar Society.

Living in the old family homestead built by her Mom and Dad in 1938, Janie was an amazing "ranch hand" and with her brother Felix could fix just about anything that went wrong with the house, well or fence!

Her interests included quilting, family genealogy and was an avid Spurs fan. Janie's research into her family genealogy and history have inspired many of us. Janie was described by her friends and family as a kind, genuine, friendly, listener, lovely, caring, smiling, sweet, supportive, wonderful, loving, amazing, gentle Christian lady.

The Madla family extends their appreciation to the nurses, doctors and staff of the Methodist Hospital ICU for their gentle care, love and patience.

Visitation will be from 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home on Bandera Road with the rosary at 7:00 PM. On Thursday, September 26, 2019, viewing is at 9:00 AM with the funeral mass at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Helotes. Interment to follow at the Madla Family Cemetery. Join the family for a reception at the church hall after the interment.
