Rev. John Burchwell

WAVERLY — Rev. John Burchwell, 72, who resided temporarily in the Waverly Nursing Home, died at 9:15 a. m. Saturday in Pike County Hospital after a one month illness.
The Rev. John Burchwell was a 50 years moderator of the Union Baptist Church near Beaver. For a number of years he was a road roller operator for the Buffalo Road Roller Co. of Springfield.
Born on July 1, 1889 in Kentucky, he was the son of Edmond and Mahala Roland Burchwell. His wife, Mrs. Martha Rigsby Burchwell, survives at home.
Additional survivors include are six sons, Con of Langley, Ky., Obra, Otus and Victor of Mason, Dillard of Morrow, and Willard of Foster; seven daughters, Mrs. Gilla Blanton, Langley, Ky., Mrs. Dollie Sluss, Hillsboro, Mrs. Opal Sparks, W. Liberty, Ky., Mrs. Wandalene Perkins, Miami Beach, Fla., Mrs. Gladys Williams, Springfield, Mrs. Thelma Sparks and Mrs. Dorothy Horn of S. Lebanon; two brothers, Arthur Burchwell, Ashland, Ky., and Daniel Burchwell, Kingston; 44 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son and a brother.
Service will be at 2 p. m. Tuesday in the Boyer Funeral Home, with the Rev. Charles Caldwell and the Rev. Walter Kembelton officiating. Burial will be in Omega Cemetery.
