Arnold Wayne Young was born in Bennett, Colorado in June 1929 the son of Earl and Viola Young.  During his life he accomplished many things, he was literally a jack-of-all-trades and a master of almost everything he did, he was a father and grandfather to all, he loved training horses and his dogs, he was a farmer, builder, foundation foreman, mechanic, gunsmith, corwainer (leather craftsman), artist, photographer, avid boater, master wood worker, and an elder and lay preacher for the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

He married his wife, Betty June (BJ) Wilson on July 3, 1947.  They raised a family of five children together.  During the time their girls (the first family) were little they lived in Nebraska where they worked on a boys ranch with at risk youth who lived with them.  When the boys (the second family) were little in 1976 they moved from Denver, Colorado to Eureka Springs, Arkansas where they lived until 2013.

Arnold suffered from the after affects of Polio at the age of 25 with limited use of his left arm.  He continued to master all of the trades mentioned above and even went on a motorcycle trip with BJ to whom he affectionately referred to as “Betty June” through Colorado, Wyoming, North and South Dakota and into Canada in 1976, a motorcycle road trip through Arkansas and Missouri in 2005, and spent years as a water-skier on lakes in Colorado and Arkansas.  He taught all of his children how to change the oil in their cars, and many of his children and grandchildren how to shoot straight, hunt, and fish.

After Arnold and BJ retired from working in 2004 they spent some time traveling.  They went to Hawaii, the Bahamas, several Florida/Georgia beaches, Telluride and Estes Park, Colorado.  Between 2004 and 2012 they spent countless weekends at Lake Ouachita where Arnold loved dragging the grandkids around on tubes, skis, kneeboard (whatever they would get on) behind the ski boat; and he would belly laugh every time he could throw one of them off the tube.  Aaron and Arnold completed a Bison Hunt on horseback near Alamosa, Colorado where Arnold killed a world class Bison in 2007.   Arnold and BJ took a cruise to Alaska in 2008.

In 2013 Arnold and BJ moved to Little Rock to a senior community.  Arnold is preceded in death by his grandson, Quinten Blake Young (2018), his daughter Gay Lynn Young Baker (1979), two brothers Don and Vern and a sisters Betty Lou and Audrey, and his parents.  He is survived by his wife BJ; his brother Alvin Young; his daughters Patricia Young-Schillereff, and Bonnie Young Clark; his sons Arnold Wayne Young, Jr., and Aaron Wade Young; his “daughter-in-law” Julie Anne Young; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He spent the last three years of life at Hickory Heights Nursing Home in Little Rock and was visited often by his wife Betty June, son Aaron, daughter-in-law Julie and some of his grand children; Quinten Young, Isaac and Kristen Young, Hannah GayLynn Young, Blake Young, Adrianna Young, Daniel Baker, and Chancey Baker.  Also visited and loved by Vince, Elisa, Julianna and Taylor Eastwood and Amber Warner and Hailey Edwards.

A formal service will not be held for Arnold; condolences can be sent to BJ Young at: 2701 Aldersgate Road #528, Little Rock, AR 72205.  In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Quinten Blake Young Memorial Fund at Bank OZK, or athttps://www.gofundme.com/manage/qjkttr-quinten-blake-young-memorial.
