Carla “ Maxine” Black Harrell of Talco, Texas passed away peacefully in her sleep on Oct 4, 2019, in Dallas. It is only fitting that our ray of sunshine was born in Golden, OK on January 31, 1939, to Mack Leon and Charline ( Pittman) Black.
Maxine and her family lived in Talco, where she excelled in high school sports, specifically basketball and cheerleading. Loved by all, she was names Talco High School Class Favorite, Miss THS and Most Popular several years running.
She met the love of her life, Frankie Joe Harrell, in 1957, while in Dallas visiting her sister Faye. Not only did she find eternal love, she found employment in the engineering department of Southwestern Bell Telephone Company - where she remained until her retirement in 2002.
Maxine lived life to the fullest and enjoyed many activities with Frankie, including square dancing with the Country Cousins Square Dancing Club, playing softball and bowling in Garland, where they made their home. In 1961, when their only child, Carla Jo was born, she became a devoted mother who cherished her daughter and was supportive in all she did. In fact, anyone who knew Carla Jo knew Frankie Joe and Maxine. She was the mom everyone loved because of her joyful heart and radiant smile. Always happy and positive. Maxine was a rare jewel.
She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church of Talco, where she often sang, demonstrating her beautiful, God given talent.
Maxine is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 60 years, Frankie Harrell of Talco, Tx, daughter and son- in - law, Carla and Mark McClanahan of Dallas, granddaughter, Sarah McClanahan of Dallas, brother and sister- in - law Butch and Harrolyn Black of Garland, TX, sister Jackie Crowley of Talco, TX, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
