Norma Lee Henson Hale, loving mother and Nana, age 80, passed away July 26, 2018 in Marietta Georgia. She was born on January 29, 1938, in Columbus, Ohio to the late Harold and Margaret Henson. She was loved and will be greatly missed by her children, Jeff Hale, Julie and Giri Iyer, Jana and Phil Arlinghaus; grandchildren Clay Hale, Lillie Hale, Rachel Arlinghaus, Nick Arlinghaus, Grace Iyer, and Janek Iyer. She is survived by siblings Ken and Shirley Henson, David Henson, brothers-in-law Wayne Wharton and Don Pahl, step-sisters Carol Northcott and Joyce Watt, step-brother William Sutton, step-brother-in-law Cliff Tavernier, and extended family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; her sisters Lois Tripp Pahl and Linda Wharton; step-mother Alice Henson; and sister-in-law Sandy Henson, brother-in-law Jerry Tripp, step-sister-in-law Wynonna Tavernier step-brothers-in-law Dennis Watt and William Northcott and niece Karen Grizzard.
Norma graduated from Linden McKinley High School, Columbus Ohio in 1955 and was a devoted wife, mother, homemaker and volunteer. She earned her associates degree in Applied Sciences at Oakland Community College, Rochester Michigan in 1984, and her Real Estate License, Knoxville Tennessee in 1987. She lived and gathered friends along the way in Utica, Michigan; Knoxville, Tennessee (twice); Macon, Georgia; Rochester, Michigan; Mason, Ohio; Cary, Illinois and Canton, Georgia.
Norma was a positive force. She never knew a stranger, accepted everyone just as they were and always put other people's needs above her own never expecting anything in return. She opened her heart to anyone who needed it and welcomed them into our home at a moment's notice. She had a special relationship with many people who would call her "a second mom". She was adventurous, fearless, inclusive, selfless, special, strong, sweet, wonderful, supportive and courageous. She had a beautiful smile, a mischievous laugh and would crinkle her nose in acknowledgement until the very end. She would always tell you that she was doing "great" with enthusiasm every time you saw her even if she had to rally the strength to do it. She had a kind-hearted, gentle soul and left a legacy of love behind her. The world is a better place because she was in it. Her spirit will continue to grow stronger, deeper, wider and more beautiful in all of us.
Norma enjoyed gardening, arts and crafts, travel, reading and whatever her grandchildren were doing. She also loved the mountains, camping and anything to do with water and the outdoors. Tennessee held a special place in her heart and when she would cross the state line, she would always say "I am home". So, we are taking her "home" for a memorial service and a celebration of her life on January 26, 2019 at First United Methodist Church, 742 Parkway, Gatlinburg, TN
