Mary Jo Gunter, met her loving Savior on Monday September 14, 2019 at 6:30 PM. Awaiting her arrival was her husband Hoover, daughter Jann, parents Raymond and Lora Green and her brother Gus Green.

Mary Jo was born on March 1, 1931 in Darrington, Washington. She graduated from Darrington High School in 1949 as class Valedictorian and was also the Timberbowl Queen and the Homecoming Queen. She and Hoover E. Gunter were married on June 8, 1951 and enjoyed 60 years of marriage before Hoover went home to Heaven in 2011. Mary Jo and Hoover were active members of Central Assembly of God where they enjoyed the fellowship and fun with their chosen church family.

Mary Jo enjoyed family time and hosted many family reunions throughout the years. Food, family and lots of love were always present at JoJo’s house. She had such a love for children, she babysat for most of her grandchildren and even some of her great grandchildren. Her love overflowed to the eight foster children she nurtured and cared for. Family was first for Mary Jo, she especially enjoyed her many “sister” trips to the Oregon Coast with Ivonne and Juanita or just the three of them at the house spending time together. Those “Green Girls” were such pranksters, always playing tricks on their brothers and many visitors, when they were young.

Mary Jo leaves a legacy of love! She was an amazing Mom to her five children, ten grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She is survived by her children and their families to include: her son, Marion and his wife Deby, their two sons: Marcus and his daughters: Cienna and Jaden, Matthew and his wife Cassie, and their two children Ashlyn and Cooper, son Glenn and his sons Eric, and his children Chase and Bryson, Jeff, his wife Tamara, and their son Landon; son, Byron, his wife Vicki, their daughter Shannon, her husband Shane and their daughter Macy, Tyson and his wife Wendy and their children Emma and Greyson, Tyler and his daughter Kennedy, daughter, Lori and her children Deric, Kalee and her son Caden and Kyann and her son Alex. She is also survived by her siblings Juanita Green, Ivonne Ashe, Mack (Mary) Green and Sam (Nancy) Green and numerous nieces and nephews who loved their “Auntie Jo”!

At her request there will not be a formal service but a private family gathering at a later date. Her “going away party” at Memorial Hospital was attended by family members who surrounded her with love while listening to her favorite hymn, The Old Rugged Cross! We will miss you Mom but know you are at peace and in the presence of your Lord and Savior. Please visit www.ValleyHillsfh.com to share a memory or condolence with the family.
