At an early age, Eleanor enjoyed playing the piano and took violin lessons. She was considered the best ice skater and diver among her sisters. She was active musically in her Valley City high school and sang in a girls' trio in the town. She went to Chaffey Junior College in California, where she met Bill Paulin. After her sophomore year, she went to Pomona College, graduating in 1939. She and Bill married following her graduation. They lived in San Jose where Bill obtained a teaching credential. They then moved to the San Luis Obispo area. Eleanor sang in a jazz band that Bill directed. She also taught piano. When living in Ontario, Eleanor raised and sold birds. The marriage ended in divorce. Eleanor died of cancer.
