Alex Stewart
Alex Stewart, well-known resident of Ramsay township, died on Tuesday, Dec 21, at the Almonte General Hospital following a short illness. He was 85. Born on the 12th Concession of Ramsay, April 1897, he was educated at the Appleton Public School. He had farmed on the homestead until the house was destroyed by fire in 1980. He moved to Almonte and in August 1982 entered the Almonte Nursing Home. He had been an employee of Ramsay township in his early life, and later became interested in the Ottawa Valley Hunt Club, spending many enjoyable days with activities of OVH as an honourary member. He was predeceased by his father, Donald Stewart, his mother, Charlotte Watson, his wife, Edith Bowland, his sister, Nursing Sister, C.M. Stewart CEF. Surviving are a daughter Anne and her husband Arthur Fulton three grandchildren, Douglas, Arlene and Donald, three sisters, Ethel Mrs H.W. Morlay) Snohomish, Wash, USA; Margaret, Carleton Place; Mabel, Toronto. Funeral was held at the Gamble & Comba Funeral Home, Church Street on Friday, Dec 24 at 11 am. Rev Ed Smith officiating. Spring interment, Auld Kirk Cemetery. Pallbearers were Laurence Kennedy, Edward Kennedy, Wilfred Neilson, Stuart McDougall, Alex Stewart, Clarence Lewis.
